An honest question because I find this confusing: Isn't this particular case legal b/c the bike lane stripe is dotted near the intersection to allow cars to turn right without running into a bicyclist who is trying to go straight ahead when the light changes? I thought proper procedure for a car at a stoplight like this was to signal and move over into the bike lane (when the lane is dotted).
Fencer is right. This is the correct way for a vehicle to turn right when the light is red. We don't want vehicles with a large blind spot on their right side giving us the right hook while we wait in the bike lane next to them. It appears that is how the young lady got killed in Dupont by the garbage truck.

better than making a right turn across our lane.. that doesn't excuse being in our lane
